You cannot see it, but you can feel, hear and even smell it. Air – in so many forms – surrounds us; it is the breath in us.

It gives life, brings relief, wreaks havoc, sometimes it almost becomes a mysterious spiritual presence.

In this book we celebrate air as an element of nature and how it enhances idioms and proverbs in language. We focus specifically on the occurrence of this element in expressions in Afrikaans, English, isiXhosa and isiZulu.
