Who is Die Stigting vir Bemagtiging deur Afrikaans?

In 1992, an Afrikaans Literacy Trust was established to empower Afrikaans users, especially in rural communities in the Western Cape. From this trust, Die Stigting vir Bemagtiging deur Afrikaans (SBA) was born.

Die Stigting vir Bemagtiging deur Afrikaans

Today, the SBA is proud to be a footprint organisation who is deeply rooted in the communities we serve. By using Afrikaans as a tool, we help to establish literate, self-sufficient and environmentally conscious communities and cultivate a pride and love for Afrikaans, especially among the youth.

Multilingualism is one of the cornerstones of the SBA. That is why the majority of material is also translated so that it can be enjoyed by a larger audience. Our material are also often adapted so that people with reading, hearing and learning disabilities can also benefit from our projects.

The SBA’s symbols:

Heart

Our heart beats for Afrikaans and for the communities we serve.

Hand

The SBA is a helping hand in the communities in which we are involved and likes to join hands with partners who share our vision.

Feet

The SBA is a footprint organisation that goes the extra mile to assist individuals and communities, either through our physical involvement (even in remote communities) or by providing digital tools.
