Visible Afrikaans – The Foundation for Empowerment through Afrikaans (SBA)
The Foundation for Empowerment through Afrikaans (SBA) under the able management of dr. Niel le Roux and his team, strive to help establish literate, self-sustaining and environmentally conscious communities through the use of Afrikaans and to establish a respect for Afrikaans.
Education lays the foundation for this project, as it involves the transfer of knowledge, skills and values. Therefore, through a variety of programs, we strive to promote literacy at the preschool level, to provide additional support to elementary and high school teachers to promote literacy, and to improve the literacy levels of especially early school leavers. Underlying this is the belief that the key to self-realization and sustainable economic progress for millions of marginalized Afrikaans speakers lies in: creative and critical thinking, effective oral and written communication, good numeracy skills, creating and utilizing opportunities and responsible interaction with the environment.

Some of the SBA’s operations:
- Workshop
The SBA supports learners in creative writing, leadership, speaking skills, communication and financial responsibility. Workshops are presented by experts at schools in the SBA focus areas and learners are practically trained.
Bridge Building Mentorship
Here the focus is on matric learners with university potential in mainly rural schools. Learners with an above-average percentage at the end of Grade 11 are given the opportunity to attend a workshop. The workshop focuses on, among other things, social and emotional development, body language communication, financial literacy, career choices and study methods. Grade 9 learners also receive guidance in subject choice.
Individual mentoring sessions that specifically focus on high-level language proficiency in support of academic literacy are presented by experienced language mentors.
Usury with Mathematics
A congress for educators from grades 1 to 12 to promote mathematical literacy in Afrikaans is presented annually in different regions.
