Personal empowerment aimed at ensuring that all individuals reach their full potential forms part of the core of Mandela Day. Due to the current constraint situation, the SBA has decided to contribute to this vision in a digital way this year.

In celebration of Mandela Day, the SBA released a free online video this month to equip young job seekers with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed. From compiling a resume, what you can expect during an interview, to what you need to wear to create the right impression; concise tips that cover the full spectrum. The video, entitled Wrapping with Job Search / Qala Ukufuna Umsebenzi / Start the Job Hunt , is available in Afrikaans, English and isiXhosa.

Collaboration in the digital sphere is of great importance to the SBA and in partnership with, the Afrikaans version of the video was also launched on their learning aid platform in celebration of Mandela Day.

The Wrap with Job Search video is also a valuable addition to the classroom where teachers are increasingly looking for meaningful ways to utilize digital resources. The dynamic presentation can be used with ease to replace the scrolls and boards full of writing. It is also in line with the SBA’s mandate to create environmentally conscious communities and try to limit the unnecessary use of paper.

The multilingual job search guide, which forms the basis of the video, first appeared in 2016. In the past, almost 10 000 printed versions of the booklet were distributed in the Western and Eastern Cape.

Tomley van Vuuren achieved great success in 2015 as a learner at the Pioneer School in Worcester as part of the SBA’s Drama Enrichment Project, and thereafter also completed his drama studies at Northlink College. In June 2021, he joined the SBA as an administrative officer.

As part of a new focus on leveraging technology for greater reach and access to empowerment opportunities, Nelmari Kemp has been appointed digital manager for the operations of the SBA.
